The Weisse Arena – the white arena – is one of the largest skiing areas of Switzerland, featuring 224 kilometres of slopes. Every day 28 lifts, chairlifts and cable cars bring thousands of skiers up the mountain and over 20 restaurants offer a wide selection of culinary delicacies to satisfy every appetite. It is simply impossible to ski all the lifts and pistes in one day - but a perfect day can certainly be spent here.
Young ski enthusiasts and mini snowboarders are best looked after by an expert ski or snowboard instructor. On request, the little ones can be picked up directly at the Hotel Waldhaus Flims by the teachers and brought safely to the ski school. Beginners under four years of age spend their day in the snow kindergarten, where they are gently introduced to skiing. In the lovingly built snow wonderland, the magician Ami Sabi tells fairy tales, talks about the forest, the animals and the mountains. Children learn skiing playfully while having a lot of fun.
While the juniors are well taken care of in the ski school, the parents can look forward to a wonderful day on the numerous blue, red and, for the very intrepid, black slopes. A shuttle brings the guests from the hotel to the valley station in Flims. There, a gondola takes them to Plaun and immediately on to Nagens, where the freshly groomed slopes are waiting to be explored. Uphill, downhill from Scansinas to Mutta Rodunda, down to Sogn Martin and back up to La Siala - it's time for a short break. The chalet on Alp Sogn Martin invites to coffee and nut gnocchi. A wonderful place to get some sun before taking the cable car back to La Siala and down the flank to Vorab.
From the glacier, which lies at 3018 m.a.s.l., there is a unique panorama far beyond the mountains of the Grisons. Passionate powder snow skiers can enjoy the softest powder snow on the descent towards Fuorcla. Carving some thin lines in the snow around the Crap Masegn and the Alp Dado and then enjoy an extensive lunch in "Das Elephant". Among other creative delicacies, the legendary Penne prepared in a Parmesan wheel are highly recommended.
For the brave, there are four snowparks around the Crap Sogn Gion. The world’s largest halfpipe – also known as «The big beast» – and more than 90 obstacles are waiting to be tried. Beginners can practise their first jumps and tricks, while advanced freestylers and pros enjoy dizzying heights.
An evening stay at the Waldhaus Flims spa is the perfect conclusion to a perfect day on the slopes. Relax and dream of glittering snow...
